The first night of our tour after we had seen Gallipoli, we were upgraded from a hostel to a four star hotel with a big pool located right on the shores of the Dardanelles.
The next morning we drove to Troy, which is just outside Cannakale, where we spent the night and then pushed on for 3 ½ hours to Pergamon in the South following the coast.
We had lunch in the town of Bergama and then drove up the hill to the ancient Pergamon and Arzu, our femal guide gathered us at 32 degrees in the shade of an olive tree and gave us the historic back ground of this place.
The ancient city became the capital of the Kingdom of Pergam during the Hellenistic periodunder the Attalid dynasty, 281–133 BC. Today, the main sites of ancient Pergamon are to ten minutes outside of the modern Turkish city of Bergama.
They have the steepest Amphitheatre of the world there, seating up to ten thousand people.
We had some ice cream and tea and drove another three hours to our next destination Kusadasi, a cruise ship port in the South.
We enjoyed dinner on the roof top and the owner invited us to a belly dance show later on – another busy day in Turkey.
